3 technical principles


Electric power steering system, or EPS, is the abbreviation of English Electric Power Steering. The system is powered directly by an electric power assist, eliminating the power steering oil pumps, hoses, hydraulic oil, conveyor belts, and pulleys mounted on the engine necessary for hydraulic power steering systems.


When the driver steers the steering wheel, the torque sensor detects the steering wheel and the magnitude of the torque, and sends the voltage signal to the electronic control unit. The electronic control unit detects the torque signal and the direction of rotation according to the torque sensor. And vehicle speed signals, etc., to the motor controller instructions, so that the motor output corresponding size and direction of the steering assist torque to generate auxiliary power. When the car does not turn, the electronic control unit does not issue a command to the motor controller and the motor does not operate.

There are three types of electric power steering systems: steering shaft assist, gear assist, and rack assist.
