From the PHFD BC assigned to the fourth floor: The crews did an outstanding job during the structure fire in Wheeling. The Fire Attack Lead-Out from the standpipe used all three 75-foot sections of 2-inch hose to reach the fire unit, which is a solid demonstration of preparedness and teamwork. It's worth noting that both Wheeling and Prospect Heights use the same 2" Denver Load Packs, so this shows consistency in equipment across the district. E39 deserves recognition for their quick action in applying water from the exterior using a 2 1/2" line before E23 had their 2" line in place. This early exterior attack was crucial in helping E23 get their line deployed more efficiently. E23 reported a pressure of 140 psi at the gauge, which is a good indication of system performance under pressure. Additionally, I was informed that there was considerable spalling of the precast concrete ceiling and floor within the fire unit. This highlights the intense heat and structural challenges faced by the crews on scene. As always, safety remains our top priority, and it’s reassuring to see how well the team handled the situation.
