Box alarm fire in Long Grove, 3-1-18
On the morning of March 1, 2018, the Countryside Fire Protection District, along with neighboring departments, responded to a basement fire at 4867 Pond View Court in Long Grove. Upon arrival, crews initiated an interior attack but had to withdraw quickly as sections of the first floor became unstable and eventually collapsed. Despite the presence of a hydrant in the cul-de-sac, a 400-foot length of large-diameter hose (LDH) was stretched to the end of the street, where two portable tanks were set up for tanker operations. Libertyville Engine 462 drew water from the portable tanks to supply Mundelein Engine 432, which was positioned in front of the house. Both Countryside engines, their tanker, and the tower ladder were also on scene. Fire spread from the basement to the second floor but was quickly brought under control. One firefighter sustained a shoulder injury and was transported to a local hospital.
The incident highlighted the coordination and quick response of multiple fire departments working together. A variety of equipment was deployed, including a Metz Raptor aerial ladder, several fire engines, and a tanker truck. Firefighters used both water and foam to combat the flames, and the scene was filled with activity as crews worked to contain the fire and prevent further damage.
