Box alarm fire in Long Grove, 3-1-18
On March 1, 2018, the Countryside Fire Protection District, along with neighboring departments, responded to a basement fire at 4867 Pond View Court in Long Grove. Upon arrival, crews initiated an interior attack but had to withdraw quickly due to compromised first-floor areas that later collapsed. Despite a hydrant being available in the cul-de-sac, a 400-foot length of large-diameter hose (LDH) was stretched to the end of the street, where two portable tanks were set up for tanker operations. Libertyville Engine 462 drew water from the portable tanks to supply Mundelein Engine 432 in front of the house. Both Countryside engines, their tanker, and the tower ladder were also stationed in front of the structure.
Fire spread from the basement to the second floor but was quickly brought under control. One firefighter sustained a shoulder injury and was transported to a local hospital. The scene was chaotic but well-coordinated, with multiple units working together to contain the blaze. Several photos from the incident are available on Shapirophotography.net, capturing the intensity of the operation and the dedication of the firefighters involved.
