Improve the effect of foliar fertilizer spraying

Foliar fertilizer plays a crucial role in supplementing soil fertilization, preventing early plant decline, and ensuring a balanced nutrient supply for crops. When used correctly, it can significantly enhance the plant's resistance to diseases, improve overall crop quality, and increase yield. To make the most of foliar fertilizers, it's important to follow some key guidelines:

First, always choose high-quality foliar fertilizers. When purchasing, check that the packaging includes all necessary information such as the trademark, enterprise standard number, product certification, agricultural use registration, plant name, production site, and date. Ensure the package is intact, and if it's a liquid fertilizer, verify its solubility and look for any signs of sedimentation or separation. A good product should be clear and free from impurities.

Second, apply foliar fertilizers with targeted precision. If the base fertilizer is insufficient, opt for foliar sprays rich in nitrogen and phosphorus. However, when sufficient basal fertilization has been applied, focus on trace elements based on the specific needs of the crop. For example, applying boron during the budding stage can help prevent flower drop and improve fiber length. Zinc application on rice and corn can reduce the occurrence of seedling blight. In acidic southern soils, molybdenum-based fertilizers can boost oil and protein content in peanuts and soybeans. Similarly, using brassinosteroids can accelerate vegetable maturity, lower cellulose levels, and improve flavor and sweetness.

Third, maintain the correct spraying concentration. It's essential to follow the recommended dilution rates, especially for products containing growth regulators. For instance, triacontanol at 0.5–1 ml per liter can promote germination, but higher concentrations may have the opposite effect. Always refer to the manufacturer’s instructions to avoid over-application, which could harm the plants instead of helping them.

Fourth, time your spraying carefully. The best times are early morning or late evening when the wind is calm, allowing better absorption by the leaves. If heavy rain occurs within 24 hours after application, re-spraying is necessary. For small areas, spray the underside of the leaves, as this surface absorbs nutrients more efficiently than the upper side.
