2nd Alarm Fire plus Haz Mat Box Alarm in Cary 3-6-13
An explosion took place in Cary at 640 Industrial Drive on Wednesday. According to reports from the Chicago Tribune:
Three individuals were injured this afternoon following several explosions at a paint manufacturing warehouse in northwest suburban Cary, authorities stated. Cary police and firefighters responded to Fox Valley Services, located at 640 Industrial Drive, around 1:15 p.m. after receiving a report of an explosion. The fire was extinguished by approximately 5 p.m., Chief Steven Casstevens mentioned.
Upon the arrival of emergency services, a second explosion occurred in the two-story warehouse building, as noted by Casstevens. These consecutive explosions caused the front part of the brick structure to be blown off, he added. Additionally, there was a small hole formed at the rear of the building due to the blasts. Three workers at the facility were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment; their conditions were not immediately disclosed, though their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
A hazardous materials response team was summoned to the site since there was a unit that dispensed foam to combat the fire at the paint manufacturing plant. Jim Hursh recounted hearing an explosion from Fox Valley Services, situated roughly a block away from his business, Whitey’s Crane Rentals, around 1 p.m. He observed significant smoke emanating from the building upon approaching the premises. Shortly thereafter, he heard another explosion and soon after, several fire trucks and ambulances arrived on the scene. At least one man with apparent facial burns was visible.
Veath informed that two out of the three employees injured in the fire were taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, while the third was airlifted via helicopter to a burn center. Fortunately, there were no firefighter injuries reported.

This information also came from Tyler Tobolt:
Cary Fire Department arrived at 640 Industrial Drive around 3 p.m. with heavy smoke visible upon arrival. Multiple explosions occurred, prompting Command to request MABAS Box #5-281 to the second level, bringing in assistance from multiple neighboring towns approximately two hours into the incident. Later, command requested a Haz-Mat box to the scene due to potential chemical spills.

There's more coverage from Scott Peterson:
Several pictures of the Cary second-alarm and Hazmat Box were captured roughly 15 minutes after the FD initially arrived on the scene. Unfortunately, I had to leave, and it seems things became quite intense afterward. This front wall is at one end of the building, and looking at Google Maps, it appears almost like a separate building attached to the main one. The front wall, about half its height, was blown out entirely along its length. Explosion damage was also evident in the rear, which had the CN&W RR tracks and Rt 14 (NW Hwy) behind it. In front were flammable tanks that companies were highly concerned about potentially causing incidents. They had two or three large handlines extended, as well as their tower ladder flowing water. As I was leaving, the Algonquin Tower ladder was moved up and utilized. Channels 5 and 7 have some excellent aerial footage. The photos were quick as the entire area was being evacuated for about two blocks due to the hazards.
