Public Company Information: NASDAQ:ADSK  SAN FRANCISCO – (BUSINESS WIRE) – After spending nearly two months on the road, the 3DRV: Driven by Design tour has started to reveal the many ways businesses and individuals are harnessing 3D design, reality capture, and fabrication technologies to transform the world around them. It's been an eye-opening experience, showing just how accessible and transformative these tools have become. TJ McCue, who is hosting the 3DRV tour and writing about it, has also been spreading awareness about 3D technology and teaching people how to leverage these innovations, many of which are either free or extremely affordable. "People from all walks of life – whether they're consumers or entrepreneurs – find 3D technology (scanning, printing, design) both captivating and sometimes baffling," said McCue. "Once we start talking about it, though, they’re always curious, engaged, and eager to learn more." Kicking off on May 16th, 2014, and supported by sponsors like Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), HP, NVIDIA, Stratasys, FARO, and Jayco, the 3DRV road trip will cover more than 100 planned stops across the U.S. over eight months. Early highlights from the tour include stops at Maker Faire, building a lunar lander for potential space missions, modeling clean-air solutions for operating rooms, personal manufacturing projects like Monkey Likes Shiny, laser scanning a Starbucks location, and even free 3D design apps being used by artists. There are also examples of 3D design and simulation being applied to improve infrastructure like bridges and roads. "Innovation is happening everywhere, offering a glimpse into the future of how we'll create things," said Amar Hanspal, senior vice president at Autodesk. "This tour aligns perfectly with our mission to empower everyone to design and make anything they can dream up." In just 69 days, McCue has traveled 4,627 miles, visited 32 locations, consumed 207 cups of coffee, and written 33 blog posts. "There's a palpable energy out there, especially when people realize they could be part of a revolution in how we make things," added McCue. "It’s clear that 'manufacturing' isn’t confined to factories anymore. Affordable and accessible tech means anyone can now be their own designer and manufacturer."
