O’Hare Airport Disaster Drill

The Chicago Fire Department recently held their annual disaster preparedness drill over the weekend at O’Hare International Airport. The Chicago Tribune covered the event and you can read their full article [here](insert link). Among those present was Gordon J. Nord, Jr., who captured some impressive images of specialized firefighting equipment used during the exercise. I’ve included a few of his photos below to give you a glimpse of what was showcased. First up is the Chicago Fire Department’s 5-3-1 unit, followed by their Engine 10R, which played a key role in the drills. There’s also the department’s 8-8-11 Oxygen Therapy Bus, designed for advanced medical support during emergencies. Another standout piece of equipment is the 8-8-1 Mass Casualty Bus, which is essential for handling large-scale incidents. Additionally, the photos feature the department’s MVU 9-2-4 unit, along with a Mobile Ventilation Unit, both of which are crucial for managing smoke-filled environments. For those interested in seeing more of these incredible vehicles, there’s a comprehensive gallery available [here](insert link). Gordon did an excellent job capturing the details of each apparatus, highlighting the dedication and precision that go into preparing for such critical situations. It’s always inspiring to see how first responders train and equip themselves to protect our communities. Let’s hope this level of preparation never needs to be put to the ultimate test, but it’s comforting to know they’re ready if needed. If you have any thoughts or experiences with emergency response drills, feel free to share them in the comments!
