2-Alarm fire in Elmwood Park, 09-30-18

It was another restless morning as I scrolled through my social media feed, trying to catch up on the latest updates. That’s when I came across a post from Steve Redick about an incident that had occurred just a few days ago—on September 30, 2018, to be exact. The news was about a two-alarm fire that broke out at Elmwood Park, specifically at 7840 North Avenue. From what Steve shared, there wasn’t much visible from his vantage point. However, he mentioned hearing something that suggested the fire was originating from within concealed spaces inside the building. He could hear the sound of saws working on the roof for quite some time, which gave me a sense of how intense the situation must have been. It seemed like firefighters were doing their best to get ahead of the blaze before it could spread further. Curious, I decided to check out the photos he attached. The first image showed thick plumes of smoke rising from the roof of an apartment building. You could tell this was no small fire by the sheer volume of smoke billowing into the sky. Another shot captured several fire trucks lined up at the scene, their lights flashing against the early morning gloom. In yet another photo, you can see firefighters working hard to control the flames while ensuring everyone’s safety. There’s also one where a firefighter is standing near the smoke-filled rooftop, looking every bit the part of someone determined to put out the fire. The final set of images focused more on the aftermath. One picture highlighted the fire trucks still present at the scene, now quieter but no less vigilant. Another showed a firefighter surveying the damage, probably assessing what needed to be done next. Each photo painted a vivid picture of the chaos and resilience involved in such situations. As I sat there scrolling through these images, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for people like those firefighters who put themselves in harm's way to protect others. It reminded me once again of how fragile life can be and how important it is to appreciate the efforts of those who keep our communities safe. I wonder if anyone else has any firsthand accounts or insights they’d like to share about this event. If so, I’d love to hear them!
