Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire, 1-10-14
This morning, I witnessed a still and box alarm fire at 1039 N. Laurel. The images below were captured by my friend Josh Boyajian. It was one of those bitterly cold mornings in Chicago, and the firefighters worked tirelessly to control the blaze.
Here’s the first image, showing the intensity of the flames as they licked at the sky. You can see the firefighters in action, their gear glistening with frost, battling against the elements to protect the neighborhood.

In this next shot, the fire seems to have engulfed much of the structure. The firefighters are working quickly to douse the flames before they spread further. It’s a reminder of how dangerous these situations can be, especially when temperatures are sub-zero.

The third image captures the teamwork involved in these operations. Each firefighter plays a crucial role, whether it's spraying water or coordinating with others on the ground. Their dedication is inspiring, especially given the harsh conditions.

Finally, this last photo shows the aftermath of the fire. The building is left charred and blackened, but thanks to the efforts of the firefighters, the damage could have been far worse. It's moments like these that highlight the bravery and skill of our first responders.

It’s always humbling to see how communities come together during emergencies like these. The firefighters truly are heroes, and I’m grateful for their service.
