Mazda sales in China fell by 16% in May May

On June 4, the reporter learned from Mazda (China) Enterprise Management Co., Ltd. that in the first five months of this year, Mazda's total sales in China were 88,000 units, up 2% year-on-year; however, the monthly sales in May alone were only 16,000 units. It decreased by 16% year-on-year.

The data shows that Mazda's two major joint ventures in China have seen a shift. From January to May this year, FAW Mazda achieved sales of 51,000 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 9%. Changan Mazda sold 36,000 vehicles, an increase of 21% year-on-year.

Despite the continuous decline in sales, Mazda China Chairman and CEO Yamada Xianzhao still said: "Mazda sales in May decreased by 16% year-on-year, although the results are less than expected, but the new Mazda3 star market continued to sell in the second half of last year, will stimulate Mazda Restore sales momentum."

However, Mazda, who has repeatedly missed the opportunity for development, obviously needs to pay more attention to the Chinese market. "FAW Mazda models are old and slow to update, relying on a few models to hit the market, has been difficult to succeed in China." Southwest Securities analyst Liu Feng told reporters.

FAW-Mazda’s main model is the Mazda6. Although there have been minor updates, Ma6 has been unable to adapt to rapidly changing consumer demand in China. Mazda is too conservative in China when compared to other joint venture brands that have introduced several new models in a year.

“The Japanese car companies suffered heavy losses after the earthquake in Japan last year, but this year, Honda, Toyota and other manufacturers have resumed growth. However, Mazda suffered a small loss in the earthquake, this year continued to decline, and the company's strategy and marketing have an important relationship.” Liu Feng thinks.

The downturn of FAW Mazda severely affected the investment income of FAW Cars (000800.SZ), which forced FAW Cars to make up their minds in February this year and invested 1.5 billion yuan to build Mazda's product transformation technology transformation projects based on existing production bases. , Through the transformation of related equipment to achieve an annual output of 60,000 vehicles production capacity.

In addition to the support of the Chinese shareholder FAW Car, Mazda's models entering China are also gradually increasing. This year, the Mazda6 Ruiwing 2012, Mazda8 2012, and CX-5 models will be introduced.

Mazda's other sales channel in China, Changan Mazda, is also about to realize the spin-off with Changan Ford. Mazda will be reduced by the constraints of Ford Motor Co., and the sales growth rate of 21% in the first half of this year also reflects the acceleration of its pace of adjustment.

In an email sent to reporters, Mazda China also stated that it plans to expand the total number of 4S stores of FAW Mazda and Changan Mazda to more than 420 by the end of this year. By the end of May, the total number of 4S stores had reached 378.
