Companies were dispatched to a still alarm at 7115 S. Sangamon on Friday around 7:00 PM. While en route, Engine 54 reported that they could see the header and confirmed there was a fire. Upon arrival, E-54 quickly contained the fire, which was heavy and had already spread to the exposure in Sector 4. Here are some of my photos—check out the full gallery on my site.
Engine Co. 54 was the first to arrive at 7115 S. Sangamon and found a fire in a 2 1/2 story frame structure. They made entry into the building while Truck Co. 20 handled ventilation and search operations. Fortunately, no victims were found, but the fire did spread slightly to 7117 S. Sangamon, another 2 1/2 story frame. The hydrant man from Engine 54 discovered a frozen hydrant, which led the incident commander to call for a Still & Box alarm. Once water was secured, crews quickly knocked down the fire.
