Valentine's Day Grilling For Two

Grilling Romance on Valentine’s Day

3-minute read | Cooking Tips

As Valentine’s Day approaches, it’s the perfect time to start planning for this special occasion. While dining out at a fancy restaurant is often the first thought that comes to mind, there’s something uniquely romantic about preparing a meal for your loved one at home. Cooking together can create unforgettable memories and strengthen your bond.

Let’s explore some Valentine’s Day dinner ideas for those who prefer to grill their meals. Whether you’re a seasoned chef or a beginner, grilling offers a delicious way to celebrate this romantic holiday.

Finding the Right Recipe

Before you focus on the ambiance, seating arrangements, or outdoor decor, it’s important to decide on the menu. What dish would both you and your partner enjoy? Would you prefer a classic American burger, a hearty pasta dish, or perhaps a tender steak? You could choose based on personal preference or discuss it with your significant other in advance. A grilled Filet Mignon is always a crowd-pleaser and an excellent choice for a romantic dinner.

If you’re new to grilling steaks, it’s best to keep things simple. Below is an easy-to-follow Grilled Filet Mignon recipe paired with grilled vegetables. The recipe serves four, but you can easily halve the ingredients to cater to just the two of you. Alternatively, you can follow the recipe as-is to have leftovers for the next day.

Total cooking time is 19 minutes, with a prep time of only seven minutes and actual cooking time of 12 minutes.

What You’ll Need

  • 2 teaspoons of sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons of coarse ground black pepper
  • 4 filet mignons (about 1 3/4 inches thick)
  • 1 tablespoon of avocado oil (or grapeseed oil)

How to Prepare Your Meal

  • Preheat the gas grill to high heat.
  • Mix the salt and pepper together and generously rub both sides of each filet mignon.
  • Oil the grill grates with avocado oil and place the steaks on the grill.
  • Cook the steaks for five to six minutes per side for medium-well doneness. Adjust cooking time based on your preference.
  • Remove the steaks from the grill and let them rest for five minutes.

While the steaks are cooking, wrap your vegetables in aluminum foil and grill them on the side for about 10 minutes. If you’d like, you can also grill baked potatoes alongside the steaks. Poke the potatoes with a fork and wrap them in foil. They take longer to cook than the steaks and veggies, so start them about an hour ahead of time.

Once everything is cooked to your liking, set it aside until you’re ready to serve. To keep the food warm, you can transfer it to your PGS grill and set it to low or a warming mode.

Creating a Romantic Outdoor Setting

With the culinary aspect taken care of, it’s time to set the stage for a romantic evening. Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating love and commitment, so your outdoor space should reflect that. Consider adding an Ambiance Mini tabletop fire feature to create a cozy atmosphere. Ensure your seating area is warm and inviting, especially if it’s chilly outside. A patio heater can help maintain warmth, but always use fire features and heaters safely—read the instructions thoroughly before use.

Enjoy your Valentine’s Day dinner for two!
