Mitsubishi will reorganize China sales office to be located in Beijing
According to a recent report from the *Wall Street Journal*, Mitsubishi Motors has announced a major restructuring of its sales operations in China, aiming to boost its performance in the region. By the end of March 2005, the company plans to consolidate its seven separate sales offices across China into a single, centralized office located in Beijing. This move is expected to streamline operations and enhance efficiency. Once the reorganization is complete, Mitsubishi will focus more on promoting imported vehicles in the Chinese market.
The report highlights that China remains a key strategic market for Mitsubishi Corporation, crucial for its long-term survival and growth. The reorganization was first disclosed in May by Mitsubishi Motors, which also revealed broader cost-cutting measures. These include closing one of its three domestic factories, reducing its workforce by 10,000 employees, and seeking financial support from both the Mitsubishi Group and external investors.
In addition to these steps, the company is exploring new options to improve production efficiency. Specifically, Mitsubishi is looking into the possibility of exporting cars from its Australian factories, which have been operating at lower efficiency levels. The plan involves shipping vehicles from Australia to countries like India, where drivers sit on the right side of the car—making it easier to adapt the vehicles for local markets.
This strategic shift reflects Mitsubishi’s efforts to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving global automotive landscape. With growing demand in emerging markets and ongoing challenges in traditional regions, the company is taking bold steps to reposition itself for future success.
