Oshkosh purchases Snozzle

A recent news release at the end of April highlighted that Oshkosh Corporation, the parent company of well-known brands like Pierce, Medtec, and Frontline Communications, acquired the Snozzle brand from Crash Rescue Equipment Services, Inc. You can read the official announcement here and another detailed report here. Some key excerpts from these announcements include: "The production of Snozzle equipment will be transferred to Oshkosh's Fire & Emergency Campus in Wisconsin and will be gradually integrated over the next six to twelve months." "The SNOZZLE apparatus features a piercing nozzle that can precisely penetrate an aircraft's passenger cabin, cargo hold, or other structures for direct firefighting agent deployment. Its lightweight, highly flexible extendable turret can function as an elevated water tower, passing through doors or over wing exits without endangering firefighters. Additionally, the patented capability to project a full master stream at ground level allows for rapid and efficient cooling of burning aircraft tires and overheated brakes. Moreover, the SNOZZLE can reach down to or below ground level, effectively applying the 'seat of the fire' method to combat fuel spill fires." Robert Conley, President of Crash Rescue, expressed his pride in Oshkosh as the new owner of this crucial ARFF (Airport Rescue Firefighting) technology. He emphasized that Grady North and Bob Relyea played pivotal roles in expanding the market for this product within the ARFF industry. "We are thrilled to see it continue under a robust owner like Oshkosh," he noted. The decision to sell was made because Crash Rescue needed to focus its personnel and resources on its core business—remanufacturing. Their newly ISO 9001:2008 certified remanufacturing operation provides comprehensive ARFF vehicle remanufacturing services globally. Their goal is to grow and concentrate further on this essential service for military, industrial, and commercial clients. Crash Rescue takes immense pride in serving its customers and is delighted to know that the SNOZZLE® will continue saving lives, protecting property, and keeping firefighters safe." Historically, the Snozzle has primarily been used by ARFF units but was previously available to all manufacturers. However, following Oshkosh's acquisition, the Snozzle will now be exclusively available to Oshkosh's subsidiaries. Chicago's Fire Department, for instance, has utilized the Snozzle on some of its vehicles. A notable example is the 1994 Oshkosh T3000 that was equipped with a Snozzle and served as 6-5-5 at O'Hare Airport. Another illustration comes from Miami International Airport, where an E-ONE Titan 8x8 ARFF vehicle with a Snozzle began operations in 2002. Similarly, Chicago also deployed an Oshkosh Striker 3000 with a Snozzle at Midway Airport in 2010. Over time, several fire departments incorporated the telescoping waterway feature of the Snozzle into their custom pumpers for structural firefighting applications. For instance, the Orange Fire Department in California has a fleet of Seagrave apparatus, one of which, built in 1994, included a 50-foot Snozzle. Another example is the LaGrange Fire Department in Kentucky, which received a 2000-built Seagrave TB51DA LFD featuring a 50-foot Snozzle, equipped with a 1,500-GPM pump, 700 gallons of water, and 50 gallons of foam divided into two cells. In southern Louisiana, the Marrero-Estelle Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 invested in a 2008 E-ONE Cyclone II engine with a 65-foot Snozzle to complement their extensive E-ONE fleet. This particular Snozzle model includes dual nozzles and a forward-looking camera at the tip. These examples showcase the versatility and importance of the Snozzle in various firefighting scenarios, ensuring enhanced safety and efficiency across different environments.
